How to use a Shampoo Bar
Shampoo bars can take a bit of getting used to, and it may be a few days, or even weeks before you see the results. But they are worth it! Gently rub wet the shampoo bar directly onto your hair from scalp to ends in a combing motion. Cover each section of your hair. Gently massage scalp and hair, adding more water as needed, until a good lather forms.
Alternatively you can lather it up in your hands, and massage into your scalp and hair. Depending on your hair type, you may need a little conditioner on the tips of your hair, or use an apple cider rinse after washing with the shampoo bar.
Switching to a natural shampoo bar is probably the best thing you can do for your hair and the environment, but it can take time to adjust! This can take anything from a couple of days to a few weeks, depending on hair length and how much chemical residue there is from your old shampoo.
As detergent shampoo strips away the natural oils that protect your hair, your scalp produces more oil to compensate. As you change to a natural shampoo bar, your scalp needs time to rebalance oil production. It needs to realise that you are not taking the oils out, and it doesn’t need to produce more! During this period, hair may feel extra greasy or heavy. Make sure you rinse extra thoroughly after shampooing. You may find using an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse, or mixing a tsp of baking soda in a little warm water and rinsing helps with the build up of oils during the transition period.
The secret to success with a natural shampoo bar is to not give up straight away! Some amazing oils, and of course goats milk, are used in these shampoo bars to really help nourish your hair, and not strip out the good stuff:
Goats milk - packed full of vitamins and minerals, which can help repair damaged hair and leave it soft and manageable. Good for dry and sensitive scalps and helps stop any itchiness.
Coconut oil - which moisturises and conditions.
Castor oil - Moisturises the scalp, eases dandruff, promotes strong healthy hair growth.
Jojoba oil - rich in vitamins and minerals that nourish hair
Wheatgerm oil - high in B vitamins which can help circulation in the scalp and encourage healthy hair growth
Olive oil - to make your hair shine!
Cocoa butter - a great hair conditioner which gives a soft tangle free feel to your hair.
Soap Bars are all hand cut, and therefore may vary in size, and shape. However they all weigh a minimum of 90g, and are closer to 100g!
How are they made?
These Goats Milk soaps are made by a small business in Hampshire, UK, using an ancient, traditional method known as the cold process. They mix quality, ethically sourced, natural oils with an alkali mixture, known as lye, which is made from raw goats milk from their own goats. Once all the ingredients are mixed the soap is poured into handmade wooden moulds to set for 48 hours. The soap is then hand cut into individual bars and left to 'cure' for a minimum of three weeks, leaving a gentle and caring bar of soap, delicate enough for even the most sensitive of skin.
The soap is a natural tan colour, but they do use natural herbs (mostly grown in their own garden), and root powders to add gentle swirls of colour and texture. All of the fragrances used are just pure Essential Oils. There are no harsh chemicals like sodium lauryl sulphate. Just 100% pure, natural ingredients. No Palm Oil involved and all soaps are suitable for vegetarians.
Why Goats Milk?
For hundreds of years, it has been believed that goats milk has exceptional moisturising and healing properties. It is a similar pH level to human skin, and is naturally high in vitamins, minerals and Alpha Hydroxy acids, that nourish and rejuvenate. Goats milk soap works particularly well for sufferers of eczema, psoriasis, and dry skin problems. Some dermatologists are now suggesting trying goats milk soap on problem skin, those with eczema, psoriasis and dry skin, before using 'conventional' products. Goats milk soaps are also excellent on normal skin, and can help prevent any problems.
